JACKSON COUNTY
Though it was not to become a state for more a century later, Mississippi history started in Jackson County in 1699 when d’Iberville created the first permanent colony in French Louisiana in what is now Ocean Springs. The people of Jackson County, however, have never rested on their laurels and have worked hard to make the county into the industrial, commercial and tourist hub it is today.
From its bustling county seat of Pascagoula, home to the state’s largest employer, Ingall’s Shipbuilding, to its equally dynamic burgs of Moss Point, Ocean Springs and Gautier, Jackson County has given much in the way of culture, athletics and leadership to Mississippi.
Jackson County also has an active Democratic Executive Committee, which plays a strategic role in Mississippi politics.
